8 Days Fully escorted private Cultural Tour: Discover the rich history of Cairo and Alexandria

Travel back in time to the realm of the Pharaohs, Alexander the Great and Cleopatra and see the rich heritage they left us in Cairo, "The Mother of the World 'and Alexandria" The Pearl of the Mediterranean ".

CAIRO's history goes back 5000 years. Located at the junction of ancient trade routes, Cairo became the artistic, cultural, and intellectual center of the ancient world. In later centuries, the Muslim influences of the Arabs, Persians and Turks created the mysterious and exotic city of Cairo with the atmosphere of  'Arabian Nights' that you can still experience today.
  • Your tour starts in the Pharaonic time with a visit to the amazing great pyramids of the pharaohs Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos, the Valley Temple and the Sphinx. You also visit Saqqara, a huge area of pyramids, temples, processional roads and underground tombs. In the Museum of Antiquities you find the tresures of ancient Egypt, including the beautiful golden mask of Tutankhamun.
  • In the oldest part of Cairo, the Coptic area, you visit some of the world's oldest churches and you'll see unique works of art exhibited in the Coptic Museum.
  • In the medieval Islamic part of Cairo, you visit the Alabaster Mosque of Mohamed Ali Pasha and the Gayer Anderson house, which provides a marvelous insight into the exotic Thousand and One Nights atmosphere of the 17th century. A walk through the narrow winding streets of the 14th century Oriental Khan el Khalili bazaar offers an enchanting shopping experience.

ALEXANDRIA was founded in 330 BC by Alexander the Great and reminds us of Cleopatra. The city became an international centre of culture and learning and attracted philosophers, artists, doctors, geographers and mathematicians. The Alexandrian Library contained the largest collection of books in the ancient world. Alexandria was also known for its Pharos lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Alexandria has always been more Mediterranean than Arab. Elegant, turn-of-the-century buildings reflect the city’s refined tranquillity. With its interesting historical sights, beautiful harbour, international flavour and year-round temperate climate, Alexandria emanates a unique charm.

  • You visit the well preserved Roman amphitheater from the second century AD, the Pillar of Pompey and the impressive Roman catacombs.
  • Alexandria has a number of charming museums. In the National Museum of Alexandria you'll see a nice exhibition of Egypt's various periods and dramatic finds from recent underwater excavations of the sunken city Heracleion. The Greaco-Roman Museum has an art collection from the Greek-Roman era and sculptures of Greek naturalism combined with Egyptian symbolism. The Royal Jewelry Museum housed in a palace, exhibites a unique collection of antiques, paintings and precious jewels from the period of Mohammed Ali Pasha.
  • At the place where once stood the famous Pharos lighthouse, the Fort Qaitbey overlooks the sea. Within its walls is a collection of weapons from the Ottoman period and pieces recovered from Napoleon’s fleet.
  • You will also visit the Bibliotheca Alexandria, the impressive modern library which resides on the former location of the original Great Library, which tragically burnt down in 640 AD.
  • On the way back to Cairo, you visit the monasteries of Wadi Natrun. Beside their solitude and serenity, the monasteries are worth visiting for the superb Coptic art.
