If you like to add some adventure to your Egypt trip, sailing down the Nile in a felucca might be just something for you.
You will embark the 30 feet felucca (old fashioned sailingboat) in Aswan and sail down the Nile for 3 days. For two nights you'll sleep in the open air under a magical star-filled sky.
Conditions on the feluccas are primitive and due to the desert climate, it can be cold at night, so bring a sleepingbag. The meals are cooked by the captain on a one-burner stove and are simple but adequate. There are no facilities on board.
On the way to Esna, you will make stops for visiting the temples. At Kom Ombo you'll visit the Temple of Horus the Elder and Sobek the crocodilegod. At Edfu horse-drawn carriages are waiting to take you to the Temple of Horus.
The leisurely and informal nature of the trip means that everyone takes a different trip. Sometimes stops are made for shopping in a colorful bazaar. Because the Nubians are very talented musicians you might find yourself dancing late into the night to the sound of drums.
Your sail ends at Esna. From there you will be transported by mini-van to your hotel in Luxor.
